Has anyone heard any of her music? Her earlier stuff proved to be an acquired taste for me, but I’ve been really liking the songs I’ve heard thus far from her new album, Have One On Me.
She has a very distinct folk-y quality that I’ve always relished. Though some of her stuff is on the tedious side (her new album clocks in at over two hours), her high points are extremely fluid, though perhaps not always directly accessible.
Her lyrics are usually quite pretty, like this bit from “Kingfisher”: In this life where did you crouch / When the sky had set to boiling / Burning within seen from without / And your gut was a serpent coiling? Quite archaic, though she also tries her hand at some more pop-y melodies.

I haven’t been able to fall asleep the last few weeks without listening to this band on repeat. Founded in ‘97, Tin Hat Trio whipped up a number of solid albums, all showcasing the thrum and twang of their stylized, instrumental chamber music.
What I love about Tin Hat Trio is that each one of their somber, weightless tunes is catchy as hell. I’ve raked the internet for piano sheet music, but, regrettably, there is none to be found. The many varied melodies I’ve grown to love will remain locked to my mp3.
Of course, all good things must come to an end, and in late ‘04, the Trio disbanded. The remaining members are now known merely as Tin Hat. In 2007, they released their latest album, The Sad Machinery of Spring. Though solid, I think I still prefer their older stuff.
